Barcelena Mace Townsend 90, of Elizabeth, West Virginia, passed away November 2, 2011 at her residence.
Barcelena lived for several years on Division St. Ext. in Parkersburg WV.
She was born February 26, 1921 in Wirt County the daughter of the late Levi Lafayette and Nellie Blanche (Nichols) Mace. She was the last of her family to join her parents and brothers and sister in heaven.
She graduated from Wirt County High School in 1939. She worked at the Rigg & Reel plant in the Packing Department for the Navy during World War II. From 1945-1947 she attended Mountain State Business College in Parkersburg. She retired from the American Viscose after 29 years of service as a pay roll supervisor, and was a member of the Beulah Humble Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by, sisters-in-law, Margarite Mace of Point Pleasant WV, Evelyn (Sam) Waggoner of Dunbar WV, Aleen Townsend of Palestine WV, Mary Helen Townsend of Elizabeth; nieces, Jo Ann (John) Wilson of Williamstown WV, Colleen (Townsend) Meeks of Elizabeth, Betsy (Brent) Stewart of Huntington WV, Ellen (Justin) Smith of Washington WV; nephews, Jim (Judy) Matheny of Elizabeth, Larry Mace of Point Pleasant WV, Mitch (Rita) Mace of Point Pleasant, Jack (Nancy) Brown of Ormond Beach FL, Jay (Dianne) Waggoner of Raleigh NC, Jarl (Winona) Waggoner of Waxhaw NC, Jon Townsend of Elizabeth, Jesse (Julie) Waggoner of South Charleston WV, and Roger (Jo Ann) Townsend of Williamstown.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clark (June) Townsend; brothers Hallie, Gerald, Woody and Clair Mace; sisters, Vivian Mace and Juanita Matheny; brothers and sisters-in law, Harry Matheny, Virginia (Tootie) Mace Sims, Clair and Eula Townsend, William Townsends, Ellis Townsend, Paul and Faye Townsend, Harry Townsend, Elizabeth (Townsend) Carper, Marjorie (Townsend) and Albert Brown; nephews, Donnie and Michael Mace, Jim Townsend; and niece, Sharon (Townsend) Miller; several great nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth WV with Rev. Delmas Stutler, Rev. Kenneth Calebaugh and Rev. John Ruehl officiating. Interment will be at Beulah Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday Nov. 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
