'NO GOING BACK' SAYS POST OFFICE OFFICIAL - 'Lease Dispute' Led To Sudden Closure

(10/28/2011)
The sudden closure of the Mt. Zion Post office was because of a "lease dispute," according to Paul Bradshaw, Review Coordinator with the United States Postal Service in Charleston.

Bradshaw indicated the failure to negotiate new lease terms with property owner Steve Satterfield was the reason for closure, causing the Mt. Zion postal operation to be shifted to Grantsville.

"There is no going back," Bradshaw said, indicating efforts had been exhausted.

"There will be no service disruption," he said.

Key mailbox holders at Mt. Zion, about 50, will have the option to pick-up their mail at Grantsville, go on the rural route or get a new postal box.

Bradshaw said the Mount Zion identity will remain in place with its zip code, being serviced out of Grantsville.

Two public meetings are scheduled for tonight, related to the proposed closure of the Orma and Millstone post offices.

Those offices are on the US Postal's closure list, the nationwide service says it is facing bankruptcy.
