Part of the Lights On program is to familiarize students with different professions. At Pleasant Hill a lawyer and a nurse have
already been reported as visiting.
The last two weeks of the regular Lights On program we had several visitors to Pleasant Hill to talk about their professions.
They included: Circuit Clerk Sheila Garretson, Calhoun County Banks vice-president Martha Haymaker, veterinarian
assistant Barb Cain (who brought critters with her), Grantsville Postmaster Bob Full, race car driver Burl Simers (who brought
his race car), State Policeman Fred Hammack, Physician's Assistant Allen Humphrey, and Firefighters Curt and Jim Garretson
(who brought a fire truck).
The students enjoyed all presentors and asked many questions regarding the different vocations.
Sheila Garretson spoke to the children about her duties as Circuit Clerk of Calhoun County.
Martha Haymaker talked to the students about the banking profession.
Barbara Cain talked about being a vet and a vet assistant.
Bob Full, postmaster, talked about mail delivery and the recent threats.
Burl Simers talked to the students about racing.
Trooper Fred Hammack of the Grantsville Detachment of the West Virginia State Police spoke to the students about
becoming a police officer. He also talked to the students about safety issues. He brought each Lights On student a mini state
police frisbee.
Allen Humphrey from Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center talked about becoming a physician's assistant.
Last, but not least, Jim and Curt Garretson spoke with the students about becoming a fireman. They also brought a fire truck.
Each student got the opportunity to spray the water hose and ride in the fire truck. We would like to thank everyone for taking
the time to come and visit the Pleasant Hill Lights On program.

On Saturday, June 1st Pleasant Hill Lights On Project sponsored a Cooking and Craft Class for preschool and kindergarten
students. The theme was Father's Day and the instructors were Becky Miller and Kelli Whytsell.
Twelve students made trail mix, bug cookies, lunch for each student and one for their dad, fingerpainted and stuffed fishes,
and fishing pole with father's day card. Each child received Mercer Mayer's My Dad and Me book and a beta fish with a
small tank to take home.
