Change the Future WV and the Calhoun County Wellness Coalition, is proud to announce the opening of the Ruth Looney Trail in Grantsville.
There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the trail on Tuesday, October 18 at 1:30 p.m. The trail connects Minnie Hamilton Health complex and downtown Grantsville. It begins at the parking lot in front of Minnie's Rainbow Center and the Calhoun County Health Department. The trail is approximately 300' long and consists of steps and a gravel pathway and leads to Route 16 adjacent to the town parking lot.
Ruth is the Office Assistant at the Calhoun Health Department. She suggested the development of the trail to Janet Heiney, County Wellness Coordinator. With the approval and support of the Wellness Coalition, the money was obtained to fund the trail. Construction was provided by Little Kanawha Excavating, Inc.
The trail is complete with the exception of applying the anti-skid strips to the steps and a park bench that will be located halfway along the trail. These finishing touches will be done in the very near future.
We have been fortunate to have a lot of community involvement with this project. Girl Scouts have volunteered to plant flowers and decorate for the dedication. Boy Scouts will be participating in maintenance of the trail, weed-eating, etc.
Come join us for the opening on October 18. Walk the steps and enjoy refreshments (healthy, of course) that will be served at the Health Department. We will meet in the parking lot in front of the Health Department at 1:30. Hope to see you here.
