Calhoun folks came out in huge numbers to attend the 78th Commencement
Exercise last night at Calhoun Middle/High School. Graduating were 102
seniors. Presenting the class for graduation was Principal Michael Offutt.
School Superintendent Ron Blankenship and school board President Rick
Fitzwater did the honors, presenting diplomas.
Principal Offutt recognized the high honor scholars and read a list of seniors
receiving $933,000 in scholarships, an all-time high. He said the dollar
amount of scholarships doubled from last year, mostly because of the
Promise Scholarships.
Offutt said 54% of the graduating class plan to attend college, 29% intend to
enter the workforce and 3% are entering the military. He also recognized
seniors receiving the President's Education Award.
Valedictory addresses were delivered by Darris Hupp and Shane Yeager and
Salutatory addresses were given by Sonja McKown and Shaina Cain.
A slide show of the life and times of Class 2002 members was presented,
and special music was provided by the CCMHS Band and Choir.
