Cecil "Ralph" Griffin Sr. 87, of Creston, W.Va., passed away Thursday,
Sept. 29, 2011, at Camden Clark Medical Center, St. Joseph's Campus.
He was born Dec. 8, 1923, at Oka, West Virginia the son of the late Reese
B. and Alice Griffin.
He retired from Carl Kelly Paving of Parkersburg. He was a member of Local
132 International Union of Operating Engineers.
In his younger years, he worked in the timber business, having served as
the head sawyer with the family sawmill. In later years he worked with
Delmas Stuler's sawmill. He enjoyed working outdoors, mowing the yard,
gardening and driving his "Ford" truck.
He is survived by his four children, John (Debbie) Griffin of Creston,
Lois (Curtis) Marks of Creston, Mary (Steve) Newton of Blairsville Ga.,
and Cecil (Chris) Griffin, Elizabeth; eight grandchildren, Jonathan Marks,
Ryan (Jessica) Marks, Aaron Marks, Kayla Copen, Dalton Griffin, Jacob
Butler, Gregory Newton, Michael (Stephanie) Newton; two great
grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Chambers of Jeffersonville Ind., Eloise
Wayne of Louisville, Ky; two brothers, Glenn Griffin of Manchester, Ohio,
and Buford Griffin of Cannel Fulton, Ohio; and long-time companion and
dearest friend "Frosty".
He was preceded in death by both parents and his wife Margaret Dooley
Griffin; one sister, Verda Bush; one infant granddaughter, Kayla Marie
Griffin.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth
with the Rev. Delmas Stutler officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m.
Saturday and from 9 a.m. Sunday until time of service.
Interment will be at Beatty Cemetery.
