Evelyn Campbell died yesterday morning after a continuing struggle with
chronic health problems. The wife of the late Robert Campbell, a Grantsville
postmaster, she was a do'er and civic-minded person, giving freely of her
time to many community projects.
She will be remembered as one of the nearly gone "Silver Girls" who met for
lunch at the Koffee Kup for several years.
She was always the lady, and when I last visited her on "Duck Alley" a short
time ago, she remained gracious, interested and concerned for her
community.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
A Message from the former pastor of Grantsville's First Baptist Church,
James Pearson:
I understand that we lost a dear friend today.
Evelyn, or 'string bean' as Rose called her was a very special person to
us.
One of the first to visit us and welcome us to Calhoun County when we
first moved in just across the parking lot from her, and one of the last
to wave good bye to us when we left.
We would return to Calhoun from time to time and hers was one of the
three houses we would visit every time.
The days at the noon coffee were always great times.
Her work and volunteerism with EMS and other projects in the county, the
town, and the church will be missed.
I wish the very best to the family and God's Blessings upon one and all.
I only wish we could return for the service but that will not be
possible.
I last saw her three weeks ago when I was in WV and she was in
Parkersburg.
Rose had talked to her by phone and I saw in the hospital.
She will be missed.
