State Police take two men into custody (right) following altercation
A man was injured during an altercation at the head of the Left Fork of Crummies Creek Sunday afternoon about 3:30 p.m. and was taken to Minnie Hamilton Health System for treatment of a head wound and possible other injuries.
Scottie Junior Rush, 56, reportedly received the injuries during an altercation with two male and one female subjects, according to a 911 report.
The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Rush was later transferred to Charleston Area Medical Center for what was described as heart problems or a heart attack.
Sources at the scene indicated the incident was connected
to a dispute over access through Rush's property (gate shown on road going up hill in photo), family members say a problem started about a week ago, claiming the same subjects got into an altercation with Rush's son, Brian Rush, 31.
State Police responded to the incident, first reported as a stabbing to the stomach.
Police have arrested Christopher Travis Helmic, 21, of Orma and Jacob Matthew Harrison, 22, of Chloe and charged them with misdemeanor battery.
The criminal complaint says that Helmic and Harrison told police that Rush initiated the fight, after which Helmick hit Rush in defense of Harrison, striking him in the ribs and head, after which they say Rush fell back-wards and struck his head on a rock.
The Grantsville Detachment of the State Police no longer releases public information locally.
