A single new case of West Nile Virus has been documented in Wood County.
Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, Regional Epidemiologist, Patrick Burke says the case involves an elderly woman currently seeking treatment at a hospital.
Burke is reminding people to continue to be cautious of free standing water where mosquitoes breed.
"It's really only transferred through the bite of an infected mosquito. It's not transmitted from person to person. Humans are what we call a dead end host which just means that once it goes in the human, the virus stops spreading. It stops at the human," Burke said.
The MOV Health Department Sanitarian Chuck Mapes is conducting a search for West Nile carrying mosquitoes in the area.
West Nile was circulating around WV a few years ago.
