A Logan County man was killed just outside a Walmart store after he allegedly attempted to rob another man with a knife.
Police are saying that the alleged victim who shot him is facing a murder charge.
Police say David Abbott, 37, of Chapmanville approached a man outside the Walmart store about 5 p.m. Monday.
Abbott allegedly threatened Jesus Canul, 26, of Logan with a knife and attempted to rob him, according to police.
Sometime during the confrontation, Canul pulled out a firearm and shot Abbott in the head, authorities said.
The incident happened just outside the front door of WalMart.
Abbott ran into WalMart after he was shot, and collapsed inside the store and died on the way to a hospital.
Police said Canul had a legal permit to carry the firearm.
Abbott had been in South Central Regional Jail in 2009 on misdemeanor charges.
The Logan Police Department is continuing the investigation.
