Robert Edwan "Bob" Calebaugh, 85, of Waverly, West Virginia, passed away August 18, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital in Zanesville Ohio.
He was born December 29, 1925 in Parkersburg WV and was raised by his
grandparents, the late Madison and Lena Calebaugh.
He attended Wirt County High School where he was active on the "Tiger" football team. After high school he enlisted in the US Navy serving in the South Pacific on the USS Kula Gulf during WWII and also boxed for the Navy.
He had worked for the B & O Railroad and retired from Cytec in Willow Island WV after 40+ years of service. During his lifetime he was the Boy Scout Leader in Waverly and coached Babe Ruth baseball and softball and won many county championships.
He was an avid fan of WVU sports as well as Wirt County High School sports. He loved the Ohio River and fished most of his life. In his later years he enjoyed passing out candy to people he met and was nicknamed the "Candy Man".
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Adah " Gracie" Marquis Calebaugh; 2 children, Michael (Suellen) Calebaugh of Elizabeth WV and Roberta "Bobbi" (Roger) Shuman of Washington WV; grandchildren, Natalie Casto, Robert Morrison (Jennifer), Joshua Morrison (Marin) and David Calebaugh; and great grandchildren, Trinity and Connor Casto and Amelia Morrison.
In addition to his grandparents he was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.
Services will be Monday August 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth WV with Rev. Lee Williams and Rev. Kenneth Calebaugh officiating. Interment will be in the K of P Cemetery, Elizabeth.
Visitation will be Sunday August 21 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home.
