Scottie Westfall, 78, of Grantsville, West Virginia, passed away at this home August 17, 2011.
He was born April 9, 1933 to Ermal (Metz) Westfall and Parker Westfall and grew up on Mike's Run and at Russet in Calhoun County. He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1952.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, and after returning from the war, he was employed by Pennzoil, where he worked for 37 years, mostly in the isolated region of Calhoun County known as "Boogerhole," riding a horse to tend wells for many years.
He was a proud member of Teamsters Local 175 and helped negotiate several contracts.
He was an avid sportsman and fisherman, who spent many hours hunting and trapping in the woods and casting his line into trout streams.
He served on the Calhoun County Board of Education from 1969-1980, serving as president of the board for several years. In addition to his service on the board of education he was a mentor to many in his community.
He is survived by sons, Scottie "Chip" Westfall of Grantsville and Doug "Jake" Westfall of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and their wives Janice and Jeanne. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Scottie Westfall III, Laura Atkinson, Casey Westfall and Catie Westfall.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie, for whom he provided devoted in-home care during the latter stages of her life; his sisters, Monoka and Shirley; and his brother, Eugene.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Housecalls Hospice or your favorite charity.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20 at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville. Rev. Ken Heiney will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
