West Virginia's regressive tax on food sales is slowly on the way out.
Acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin continues to sign legislation cutting the rate.
Beginning Jan. 1, consumers will pay 2 cents on each $1 worth of food purchased for home consumption. They currently pay 3 cents.
Before Gov. Tomblim started his effort, West Virginians paid 6 cents on the dollar.
The most recent tax cut ran into opposition from members of the House of Delegates.
House Speaker Rick Thompson and some members of the Republican minority wanted to eliminate the tax entirely.
