Charles F. Yerkey, 79, of New Stanton, Pennsylvania, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.
He was born April 14, 1932, in Glen White, W.Va., a son of the late Frederick and Hallie (Schartiger) Yerkey.
He was a Korean War veteran, having served in the Army. He was a former Ohio state trooper, and retired from Carolina Freight. He was an avid golfer.
Surviving are his wife, Ellodene Newell Yerkey; five children, Charles F. Yerkey and wife, Melody, of Akron Ohio, Robin Linkowski and husband, James, of Greensburg, Jacqueline Stoner and husband, Wade, of Laughlintown, Frederick G. Yerkey, of Almont Colorado, and Jeffrey A. Yerkey and partner, James Myles, of Lusby Md.; three grandchildren, Katherine Yerkey, of Akron, David Griffith and wife, Tiffany, of Scottdale, and Charles Yerkey and wife, Erin of Akron; four great grandchildren; twin brother, Glenn Yerkey, of Buckhannon W.Va.; sister, Dolores Siers of Akron Ohio; a brother, John Yerkey and wife Suzanne, of Akron; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Krisa, of East Palestine Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Krisa.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the C. Richard McCauley Funeral Home, Inc., Youngwood. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Bossart officiating. Interment will follow in Middletown Cemetery, where military funeral rites will be accorded by the Armbrust Veterans Association.
