Family Court Judge Larry Whited is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday morning in Charleston General Hospital, for what family members said is "crucial" to his recovery.
Whited has been in critical condition since he sustained serious injuries July 31 after a farm tractor accident on his property.
Family members have reported "ups and downs" related to his condition.
"Currently he is overcoming the odds but Thursday will be key," said his son Steve Whited.
The surgery is to make sure all bleeding has been stopped and that organs are revived. He is suffering from a liver laceration.
"Dad knows about the support from the community and their prayers. Our family is so thankful for all the prayers. We are truly blessed...It's going to be a long road ahead," said Steve Whited.
Judge Whited presides over the Fourth Family Court Circuit which includes Roane, Calhoun, Gilmer and Doddridge counties.
He was first appointed to the judgeship in 2001, and has since been re-elected.
