Traces of asbestos have been found in Lizemores Elementary School in Clay County, causing school officials to scramble to remove it before the start of school.
A media reports says when renovations were being done to the school last week, contractors found something that looked "suspicious" under some of the floor tiles in the upstairs of the building.
Clay County assistant superintendent Danny Brown said the discovery prompted testing by Pinnacle Environmental Consultants, the company discovering asbestos.
About 1,782 square feet of tile was shown to have asbestos underneath in the 59-year-old school.
School is scheduled to start on Aug. 15 for teachers and Aug. 18 for students.
"We're on a tight timeline trying to get it done before school starts," Brown said.
