Calhoun firemen participated in a controlled burn Monday evening of a Mt. Zion house sitting on property which will be used for a new LK Transit Authority complex.

The construction of a new Little Kanawha Transit Authority facility at Mt. Zion was to commence in 2011, according to LK Transit manager Darlene Harris.

The $3,364,385 facility is funded by the federal government's stimulus package for community improvements.

West Virginia's Division of Public Transit is in charge of the project, including the letting of bids.

Harris says the money will be used to construct an operational complex, including a maintenance garage, office and training rooms.

The authority serves Calhoun, Roane and Jackson County, and currently operates an office at Arnoldsburg.

The LKTA purchased the 4.5 acres of land at Mt. Zion, known as the Paul Slider place.
