Donald Wade Hosey, 84, of Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away at his home Friday, July 8, 2011.
He was born in Grantsville, West Virginia on March 25, 1927 to the late Wade Hampton and Sarah Loretta Snyder Hosey.
Don was a retired Yeoman First Class from the U.S. Navy, having served his country for 21 years in WWII, Korea and Vietnam Wars where he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service (Asia) Clasp, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and four Good Conduct Medals. He was also the owner of River City Claims Service for 26 years until his retirement and had worked for the Central Intelligence Agency. He was of the United Methodist faith and a member of the Portsmouth VFW and Grantsville American Legion posts.
Donald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Bryant Jackson Hosey, whom he married in Grantsville Oct. 4, 1947; one son, Donald Jackson (Sonya) Hosey of Manassas, VA; two daughters, Teresa Ann Bratton of Portsmouth and Priscilla Ann (Bobby) Hunt of Portsmouth; two brothers, Harold Hosey of Mesa, AZ and Boyd Hosey of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren, Michael Bratton, Ryan (Tracy) Bratton, Robert Hunt, Daniel (Donna) Hosey, 1st Lt. Andrew Hosey, Ladd (Carissa) Dunham and two great-grandchildren, Ashton Hunt and Tristan Dunham.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 10 at 5 p.m. at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Peter Michael officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 11 at 2 p.m. at the Betts Cemetery in Grantsville with the West Virginia Honor Guard providing military graveside services.
