Employee of the Year award to Karen Lay

Glenville, WV - Karen Lay, Glenville State College, Director of Financial Aid, received the Classified Employee of the Year award at Glenville State College's commencement ceremony on May 14th. Lay is a native of Glenville and has twenty-four years of service at GSC. "I work daily with people who care about each other and the students. This award means a lot to me because it was voted on by my co-workers," said Lay.
She was honored with the 2003 GSC Presidents Award of Excellence, has served on many campus committees and given numerous financial aid presentations. She was the 2004-2005 President of the WV Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and has served on many committees for the organization. Additionally, Lay received the 2006 WV Leadership Award from the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA), was the 2006-2007 Secretary of MASFAA, and is currently a member of the National Association Student Financial Aid Administrators Peer Review Team.
Lay earned her a bachelor of arts degree in social work from Glenville State College in 1979 and a master's degree in leadership studies in from Marshall University in 2003. She resides in Glenville with her husband Barry. Her daughters Corrie and Alex are recent graduates of GSC. In her free time she loves riding and caring for horses, crocheting, and spending time with her family.
