The Gilmer County community of Coxs Mills is getting $3,255,000 to bring public water to the area.
The Gilmer County Public Service District announced Wednesday
that Acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin
signed a $1 million Small Cities Block
Grant for the Coxs Mills Water Project.
Those funds appear to have completed the financial package for the project.
Senator
Doug Facemire spearheaded procuring the grant
funds, saying "I have never
been able to obtain a million dollar grant
before and I am almost as excited as the
district."
The project will benefit approximately 100 homes in the areas of Coxs Mills, Wolf Pen,
and Alice Road.
Poor water quality and the lack of a
substantial quantity has necessitated the
hauling of water by residents for many years, according to Brenda Lawson, General Manager of the district.
She said seven random water samples were taken in the area and four
came back positive for coliform.
"GCPSD board member Sallie Mathess
is to be commended for her hard work in
gathering signatures of commitment," said Lawson.
New sign ups are welcome. Call the district at 304-462-
4272.
