Walter Harper, 94, of Walton, West Virginia, died Friday, April 22, 2011, in the Miletree Center, Spencer WV, after an extended illness.

He was born April 30, 1916, at Cicerone, a son of the late Joseph Marshall and Emma Jones Harper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, seven sisters and one brother.

Mr. Harper was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Operating Engineers and the NRA. In his spare time, he enjoyed raising, riding and trading horses.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet Davis of Spencer; one son, James M. Harper of Lakin WV; six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Gandeeville Cemetery, Gandeeville WV.

Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
