Calhoun Middle-High School students competed at the Regional Math Fair held Monday, March 14 at WVU Parkersburg. Students in grades 5-9 competed in a written exam, 2 mental math exams, and a quantitative estimation exam. The high school team took 2 written exams consisting of 20 questions in all.
Teams of three from 5th-9th grade along with the high school team consisting of 10 upperclassmen competed against teams from the other seven counties in RESA V.
County winners are:
5th Grade - 1st Place Robert Twist; 2nd Place Roby Farmer;
3rd Place Hayes Vineyard; 1st Alternate Echo Richards;
2nd Alternate Eli Stump.
6th Grade - 1st Place Alec Richards; 2nd Place Makayla Smith;
3rd Place Alisha Fulks; 1st Alternate Corey Carpenter; 2nd Alternate Hannah Allen.
7th Grade - 1st Place Helenna Wood; 2nd Place Aleah Dye;
3rd Place Ross Vineyard; 1st Alternate Brandi Whited;
2nd Alternate Johnny Taylor.
8th Grade - 1st Place Nate Hipp; 2nd Place Monica Heiney;
3rd Place Jorge Webster; 1st Alternate Amber Frymier; 2nd Alternate Jarrett Nicholas.
9th Grade - 1st Place Kelsey Jett; 2nd Place Autumn Jones; 3rd Place Kayla Church; 1st Alternate Nick Lane; 2nd Alternate Jared Fitzwater.
The Senior High team included Jean Blair, Heaven Cain, Christopher Cunningham, Stewart Fitzwater, Samantha Fulks, Michelle Hall, Zach Hanshaw, Joe Overbaugh, Karissa Reip, and Ariane Stough.
Placing in the regional competition was 6th grade student Alec Richards whom was 1st alternate and 7th grade student Aleah Dye who received 3rd place.
