Retta Jane Stevens Johnson, 92, of Grantsville, West Virginia, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Minnie Hamilton Health System, Long Term Care in Grantsville.
Retta was born February 7, 1919, the daughter of the late Francis K. and Lula Starcher Stevens. She was a wealth of knowledge, an excellent cook, gardener and seamstress. She worked building the WPA during WWII and later worked for Rubber Fabricators Inc. She was a good neighbor to everyone and helped whomever needed anything. She was loved by everyone.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Festus, Sheldon, Cleo, Samuel and Donald Stevens.
Surviving are her son, Billy Joe Johnson of Poth, Texas; sisters, Rachel Smith and Geneva Wilson; brother, James Stevens; grandchildren, Deborah Starcher, Billy Joe John Johnson, Jr., David Johnson, Martin and Jody Johnson; and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville. Rev. C.W. McDonald will officiate. Interment will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery at Grantsville.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
