Both teams entered the Charleston Civic Center court showing their tournament anxiety.
It took mid-way through the first half for the teams
to settle down and for Glenville to begin to pull away.
The game was close until the Lady Pioneers forced
a turnover and scored making it 17-14 near the 10-minute
mark. Tenisha Wilson grabbed a rebound, and took
the ball inside for two; the score 19-14.
A quick GSC steal and a Kim Stephens triple gave
the team the steam to open up the game leading
by as much as 13.
While the Lady Pioneers held onto their lead winning
91-73 neither team posted outstanding numbers.
But it was Glenville's defense and the pressure that
made the difference. The Lady Pioneers managed to
snag 26 steals during the game, and forced sixteen
turnovers.
Coach Bunky Harkleroad said he was just glad the
team was able to survive the full-court press Pitt-Johnstown
applied in the final minutes.
"For just about every kid on our roster this is uncharted
territory," the coach indicated.
"Hopefully they'll realize we belong here ... so let's make
lay-ups now."
The Lady Pioneers will meet the winner of the West
Liberty-Concord game Friday at 3 p.m.

for Glenville State College with 21 and 20 points respectfully.
Kristen Golden had a big game getting a double-double
for her efforts; 14 rebounds and 13 points. Mishae Miles
echoed that returning to double-double territory with 13 points
and 11 rebounds.
Miranda Reed had 6 assists and 5 steals.
Kristen Golden turned in a huge game for the Lady
Pioneers. She blocked four shots, had to steals,
scored 13 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Pitt-Johnstown had trouble finding their long-distance range,
only hitting one three-pointer for the game. Otherwise their
shoot stats beat GSC's.
Overall, for the game, Glenville shot 34-percent from the floor,
and hit 23-percent of their long-range attempts, or 6 of 26 shots.
