The last surviving soldier (nationwide) from World War I, 110-year-old Frank Buckles, has died at his Charles Town, West Virginia farm.
He enlisted in World War I at 16 after lying about his age.
Buckles devoted the last years of his life to campaigning for greater recognition for his former comrades, prodding politicians to support a national memorial in Washington to make sure WWI was not forgotten.
