American Electric Power announced today it will file, along with FirstEnergy Corporation, to withdraw the applications for state regulatory approval of the Potomac-Appalachian Transmission Highline (PATH) project.
AEP says they are announcing the suspension of the project following an announcement by regional grid operator PJM Interconnection.
The project would have affected WV citizens in several ways, including increased coal-fired pollution in the Mountain State to produce electric for the eastern seaboard, costs of the multi-billion dollar project that would have partially been borne by WV ratepayers, and the construction of giant transmission lines that would have affected hundreds of land owners in West Virginia, including about 70 in Calhoun County.
