Nominees are needed for the West Virginia Silver Haired Legislature, which is
composed of representatives 60 years of age or older, who are elected from around
the state by their peers.
Through the program, older adults learn about the legislative process and identify
solutions to common problems.
The election will fill all 134 seats for the 2002-03 session. Persons are eligible to
become candidates if they are over 60 and registered to vote. Candidates must
reside in the region from which they wish to run.
Seniors must file a nominating petition with the signatures of 25 residents, all over
age 60. Petitions are available at the Senior Centers in Grantsville and Minnora. The
deadline for filing the petition is Friday, May 10.
