G. Maxine Alvis, 79, of Spencer, West Virginia, died December 24, 2010 at Roane General Hospital in Spencer.
Maxine was born February 22, 1931 in Calhoun County WV a daughter of the late Kenna "Kenneth" and Wyoma Starcher Greathouse. She was a homemaker and formerly worked as a a grade school and high school cook. She was a Christian and attended many churches in the area and was a member of the Gandee Chapel Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Emogene Callow and her husband George of Reedy WV, and Evelyn Gordie Goodwin of Spencer; three grandchildren, Timothy Callow and his wife Stacy, Christy Shouldis and her husband David, and Eddie Goodwin; and two great grandchildren, Lucas Keith Shouldis and Dawson Lee Shouldis.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony E. Alvis in 2007; a son, James Earl Alvis; and a son-in-law, Edward Goodwin, Sr.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 28 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer with Rev. Emzy Ashby officiating. Burial will be in the Spencer Memorial Cemetery.
Visiting hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
