CALHOUN FALLS TO PARKERSBURG CATHOLIC 57-31
A slow first quarter put Calhoun in a hole from it was never to recover in the Red Devils home opener Tuesday night.
Unfortunately for the Red Devils spotting defending state Class A champion Parkersburg Catholic a 13-2 lead is usually a fatal step. And it was Tuesday as the Crusaders cruised to a 57-31 victory.
John Padden led PCHS, 1-0, with 12. Sean Rafferty added 11.
One of the most telling statistics for PCHS was the "line" recorded by Nick Fisher. Fisher only had five points but he added 10 rebounds (same as Rafferty and Zach Romine) and 10 steals meaning that he was very disruptive to Calhoun's offense.
The Red Devils, 0-5, was led by Ryan Slider and Bronson Clark with eight each while Tyler Bennett had seven, Luke Moore five, Quentin "Q Dawg" Murphy two and Jordan Panarello 1. Nathan Cosgrove, Derek Dawson, Trent Phillips and David Villers all played but did not score.
Despite four good defensive efforts (Ritchie punctured Calhoun for 75 points) the Red Devils have yet to score more than 35 points this year which leads to the five-game winless skid.
Parkersburg Catholic won the reserve game by a 51-26 score.
Joe Padden and Tony Borrelli had 13 each for the Crusaders while Ricky Hall led the Red Devils with six.
Calhoun returns to action tonight at Mount Zion in a rematch with Ritchie County.
