Calhoun High School basketball coach Danny Bunch said his team looked flat Monday night ... before the game.

The Red Devils looked flat during the game as Braxton jumped out to an early lead and pulled away thereafter outscoring Calhoun in every quarter en route to a 59-30 victory.

Braxton led by only seven, 15-8, at the end of one quarter and at halftime the Red Devils were further behind but within hailing distance on the short end of a 25-13 score at intermission.

But in the second half the Eagles poured it on.

Bronson Clark led Calhoun with 15 points but he was the only player to hit in double figures for the winless (0-4) Red Devils.

Quentin "Q Dawg" Murphy was next with nine followed by Ryan Slider with four and Trent Phillips with two. Jordan Panarello, Luke Moore, Tyler Bennett. David Villers, Mason Sheldon, Nathan Cosgrove and Jared Mounts all played but did not score.

Jordan Coen led Braxton with 15.

Braxton also won the time-shortened reserve game by a 39-10 score.

The game consisted of two eight minute quarters in the first half. There was no halftime. The third quarter was only five minutes long and the clock was not stopped for any reason. There was no fourth quarter.

The decision to shorten the game was made by the Braxton County athletic department because the Red Devils were late arriving.

Slider led Calhoun with five while Mounts added three and Cosgrove two.

Calhoun will return to action tonight at Mount Zion against defending state Class A champion Parkersburg Catholic.
