CHARLESTON, W.Va. - West Virginia has the highest percentage of owner-occupied homes in the country, but those homes are worth less than in any other state and are less likely to be hooked up to the Internet than anywhere else.
Those are some of the statistics available in the new 2010 edition of the Statistical Abstract of the United States, an annual U.S. Census Bureau publication.
In 2008, 78 percent of all West Virginians lived in homes they owned, the highest percentage of any state. New York was at the bottom, with only 55 percent of its homes owner-occupied.
The median value of owner-occupied homes in West Virginia was $96,000, tying it with Mississippi for the lowest in the nation.
