Somewhere along the way in the third quarter near the flagrant foul called on the Red Devils or the technical foul they were assessed, the wheels came off the wagon and Roane County pulled away to take a 59-36 victory over Calhoun, Tuesday.
The loss dropped the Red Devils to 0-3 on the season heading in to Thursday night's game at Braxton County.
Calhoun led most of the way in the first half and appeared ready to break into the win column. But problems arose after intermission and a foul or two here and there stopped the momentum and the Raiders posted an 18-4 bulge. After that it was just a matter of determining the final score and Roane pulled away.
Bronson Clark was the only Red Devil player to hit in double figures as he led the way with 19.
He was followed by Tyler Bennett with six, Quentin "Q Dawg" Murphy with five, Mason Sheldon and Jordan Panarello with two each and Ryan Slider and Trent Phillips with one. Stewart Fitzwater, Jared Mounts, Luke Moore and David Villers all played but did not score.
R. J. Burdette led Roane with 14 while Lane Ashley and Alex Mace added 13 apiece.
Roane County also won the junior varsity game by a convincing 66-9 score.
Slider led Calhoun, 0-3, with four while Nathan Cosgrove and Mounts added three apiece.
For Roane Quentin Corbitt had 16.
