Calhoun scored the first two points of the game. Then Spencer scored the next 14. It proved to be a deficit the Red Devils could never erase as the Yellow Jackets took a 44-32 middle school victory over the visitors Tuesday night.

The Red Devils got a bucket from Tyler Tanner on a nice pass from Tyler Gerwig that was set up as the Red Devils; offense clicked to perfection.

That was about the last time that was to happen as Calhoun's offense -- particularly its shooting -- went as cold as the frigid temperatures outside.

With the offense struggling Spencer quickly took the lead by scoring 14 straight before a free throw by Gerwig stemmed the tide.

The rest of the game was a bit of a yo-yo affair with with the Red Devils closing the gap only to have Spencer push the lead back out to a 12-or-so point margin.

Gerwig led the way for Calhoun, now 1-3, with 15 points and 16 rebounds. He also added a couple of assists.

He was followed by Lucas Wilson with six while Sam Brady and Tanner had four each and William Baker three. Tyler Sims and Luke Sheldon both played but did not score.

For Spencer, 2-1, Jesse Lucion had a game high 16 points and Eli Kucherawy had seven.

Spencer won the B game in much the same manner as Calhoun trailed by only four, 10-6, at halftime only to have Spencer score 24 unanswered points in the second half.

Ethyn Miller scored all six of Calhoun's points. He also had three steals and two rebounds.

Christopher Kirkland, Nick Watkins, Riley Cain, Justyn Starcher, Dustin Turner, Robby Lamp, Austin Bailey, Nick Murphy, Austin Gribble, Kyle Farrell and Jerry Jones all played but did not score. Gribble did have a team high nine rebounds while Jones and Bailey had two steals apiece.

Spencer got 14 points from starting guard Drew Kinder including eight in the fourth quarter. Stetson Moore was next with eight for the Yellow Jackets.

Calhoun will try to snap its three-game skid Thursday night when it travels to Braxton Middle School.
