For the past five years, the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority has chosen a recycling champion to coincide with America Recycles Day, on November 15.
Calhoun's recycling champion this year is Cha Tis of Grantsville, WV, a gas station and convenience store owned by Steve Satterfield. The entire staff at Cha Tis participates in bringing all of its cardboard to Cabot Recycling Station for recycling.
By recycling its cardboard, Cha Tis is helping fight climate change, avoiding costly disposal fees, and conserving resources.
Cha Tis also accepts used plastic bags such as those from Foodland or WalMart to re-use as plastic bags. This innovative program reduces litter, saves Cha Tis from buying new plastic bags and gives area residents a place to take their old plastic bags.
Judy Wolfram, vice chair of the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority presented the 2010 Recycling Champion Award to Cha Tis on November 19th.
As part of acknowledging Cha Tis' significant recycling leadership, the Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority would like to point out that we all benefit from their efforts, which provide for a better tomorrow.
Cabot Recycling Station is open to accept recyclables 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Nonferrous metals are purchased on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Call 304-354-7786 for more information.
