UPDATED: CHARGES WILL BE FILED AGAINST CALHOUN BANK ROBBER

(11/19/2010)
Accused Calhoun bank robber Richard "Ricky" Vance, 22, has been extradited from Texas to West Virginia by Roane County authorities. He is being held in Central Regional Jail.

Charges for first degree armed robbery and the theft of an ATV will be filed against Vance by Calhoun prosecutor Rocky Holmes.

Roane County prosecutor Josh Downey said Vance was wanted on a probation violation in Roane County, those charges being used for his extradition.

Downey told the Herald that two Roane County deputies left Spencer Sunday, bringing Vance back by car.

Roane officials said, "Budget limitations made it difficult for Calhoun to undertake the extradition."

Vance was arrested in San Antonio, Texas, according to Sgt. O. S. Starsick of the Grantsville State Police Detachment. He has waived extradition.

Authorities in Bexar County, Texas arrested Vance in October. He has been held in the Bexar Detention Center.

Details of what led to Vance's arrest have not been released.

"There are no reports of money from the robbery being recovered," Sgt. Starsick said.

State Police said a federal prosecutor has interest in processing the case.

Vance allegedly went to the Calhoun Bank at Arnoldsburg on an ATV and held-up the establishment on September 13 with a hunting knife.

Authorities have yet to release the amount of money taken.

Vance, a Lincoln County native, had been living in the Orma area on Nicut Road and was familiar to the Calhoun community.

Sgt. Starsick said, "We still have not ruled out other individuals that could have been part of the robbery, or some of them benefiting from the robbery."

Court records say Vance was placed on three years probation in Roane County last January after pleading guilty to receiving stolen property.

It was the second robbery at the Arnoldsburg branch bank in less than two years, the robberies being the first such incidents in Calhoun County in over 100 years.
