Former Grantsville resident Catharine Virden, 83, has died in Chesapeake Virginia.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville, a slight adjustment in the original time.
Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In 2006 Catharine left Grantsville after 44 years.
At that time she said, "It seems like a short time ago we came to Grantsville (1962). It is home to all my boys. Most of my old friends have already passed on, but there are several still around that I'll really miss.
She was the widow of former Calhoun basketball coach and educator, the late Joe Virden, who was also a former Mayor of Grantsville.
Catharine attended Saint Mary's High School, Seton Hill College and West Liberty University. She was formerly employed with Calhoun General Hospital.
The Virdens have three sons, all Calhoun County High School graduates, all career Navy men.

Lt. Commander Roy J. Virden is retired from the US Navy. His brothers, Chief Petty Officer Michael J. Virden and Petty Officer 1st Class Robert D. Virden, are still pursuing their Naval careers.
