Denver Garretson, 91, of Creston West Virginia, passed away November 10, 2010 at Glenville Care And Rehabilitation Center in Glenville following a long illness.
He was born at Cremo, Calhoun County, a son of the late R.L. Garretson and Mabel Dawson Garretson. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII where he was a member of Company A, 753rd Tank Battalion serving as a gunner. His military combat service was in North Africa, Sicily, Naples, Loggia, Rome and Arno. He was awarded the European Campaign Service Ribbon, 3 Bronze Stars and 2 Overseas Service Bars. He entered active duty December 9, 1941 and was discharged October 13, 1945. He was a farmer and was retired from Spencer State Hospital as a barber with 24 years service. He was a member of the Full Gospel Lighthouse at Big Bend.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Pauline Cunningham Garretson; one daughter, Patty (Don) Cooper of Johnson City Tennessee; one sister, Edith Stoner of Mansfield Ohio.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gordie and John Garretson; 3 sisters, Gladys, Meldren and Virginia.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, November 14 at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville. Rev. David Carpenter will officiate. Interment will be in the McCray Cemetery at Creston.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
