Gilmer County woman Alpha Coberly Miles Osborn will be 109 years old on November 10. She is a native of Cedar Creek.

Her first husband, Edward Miles, fought in World War I, making her one of the oldest surviving WWI widows in the USA.

Ms. Osborn retired after many years of "building beads" for Firestone Rubber in Akron.

She buried her second husband, Eldon Osborn, but remained living alone in Akron for years, finally returning to West Virginia in 2000.

The family is gathering for a party for her Saturday, November 13.

Ms. Osborn would appreciate cards for her birthday:
