Gloria West Pratt

Mrs. Gloria West Pratt passed away October 19, 2010 peacefully at Valley Center, South Charleston, WV, after a two year battle with ill health.

She was born in Spencer, in the old McKown Hotel (later known as Spencer-Roane Hotel). Her parents, the late Myron D. and Justine Rogers West were visiting over Christmas 1928, with Mrs. West's Aunt Flo Sarver McKown and Uncle Eph McKown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles and Malissa Sarver Rogers and Lyda and Ida Cox West.

She loved Spencer and enjoyed working on her class reunions from Spencer High School, where she graduated in 1946 and in her younger years attended St. John's United Methodist Church in Spencer.

During her life, she has worked at Spencer Department Store, First National Bank of Spencer and in later years, Blue Ridge Optical Co., Ashmore Optical Co. and Coffman Optical Co. all of Charleston, W.Va.

Gloria is survived by her husband of 46 years, Stuart "Gene" Pratt; children, Mrs. Cheryl Moss Holbrook of Charleston, Gregory Moss of Babson Park, Fla., Kevin Pratt of Staten Island, N.Y. and Stuart "Kyle" Pratt of High Point, N.C.; grandchildren, Amanda and Adam Moss both of Babson Park, Mrs. Jennifer Hudson Greene of Eure, N.C.; great grandchildren, Jenna and Charlotte Greene of Eure; and many friends and classmates from Spencer High School and a special friend from grade school, Mary Margaret Cox Pyle.

The family wishes to especially thank: Dr. John Lilly and staff, the compassionate staff at Valley Center of South Charleston, both CAMC and Thomas Memorial Hospitals and the caring staff of Hospice of W.Va. for the wonderful care and concern they have shown our family member.

A joint funeral service for Mr. and Mrs. Pratt will be held Sunday, October 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Donald R. Keller officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover, W.Va. Friends may call Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
