Charles (aka Charlie or Chuck) Wayne Sampson, 75 of Newark, W.Va., went Home on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born Nov. 21, 1934 in Calhoun County, he was a son of the late James Howard and Eva Mae (Nutter) Sampson.
Chuck graduated from Belpre High School, where he was a member of the school's first football team. He moved to California in 1959 and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years. He returned to West Virginia in 2000. He was an active and beloved member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church of Newark.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 21 years, Joanne Sampson; six children, Charlene (Mike) Ramel, Allen (Vickie) Sampson, Diana (Jack) Cremins, Rebecca Sampson (Jeroen Struik), Matthew Sampson, and Rachel Sampson; 21 grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister Nancy Hetzer and brothers Duane, Ron and Max Sampson.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his son Kyle Sampson in 2007 and sister Mary Sampson.
A celebration of his life and Home-Going will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Pastor Matt Hornbeck officiating. Burial will be at Rockland Cemetery, Belpre. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
