Nearly 40 area volunteer fire departments have been invited to participate
in two days of 'family-oriented' fun, beginning Saturday, Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. with a
parade.
All activities are at the Gilmer County Recreation Center located adjacent
the Glenville golf course at the end of Mineral Road.
The fireman's competition will be ongoing throughout the day, including
the bucket brigade race, water battles, and tug of war competitions using
fire hoses.
Other activities on Saturday's schedule include: an 11 a.m. car show; free
kids games, noon to 4 p.m.; a no-alcohol poker run at noon (registration
begins at 10 a.m.); bingo starts at noon; a talent competition is scheduled
for 1 p.m.; and there's Irish road bowling, music, and a haunted house
later in the evening.
Sunday begins with a 9 a.m. church service. Kids games begin at noon.
A scavenger hunt beings at 1:30 p.m.; a horseshoe tournament is slated
for 2 p.m. ($5 entry fee); fire prevention demonstrations start at 3 p.m.,
with the day concluding with a hayride.
The fire department is sponsoring a flea market to coincide with the

Cash prizes will be awarded from the entry fees of the horseshoe
tournament.
Any licensed vehicle can be used to participate in the 105-mile
poker run. The stops are all at area volunteer fire departments. |
