ST. ALBANS POLICEMAN SENTENCED TO HOME CONFINEMENT - A St. Albans police officer who stalked his ex-girlfriend and wrestled with his ex-wife for control of a gun during an apparent suicide attempt will spend seven months on home confinement.

In July, Ronald Mark Chapman, 44, of Milton, admitted that he had three handguns and three shotguns, as well as hundreds of rounds of ammunition, in his possession in Dec. 2009, while he was subject to a domestic violence protective order.

U.S. District Judge Robert C. Chambers said he lessened Chapman's sentence because of his 16-year career as a police officer and his service in Iraq.

He had been facing 24 to 30 months in prison suggested by federal sentencing guidelines.

Chambers sentenced Chapman to five months he had already spent in jail, plus an additional seven months on home confinement as part of two years of supervised release.

OAK HILL BARTENDER ROBBED - A female bartender at Jesse's Pub in Oak Hill was held at gunpoint and her hands tied while two hooded men robbed the place, Monday.

Employees reported a suspicious man in the liquor aisle, after which Charleston Police discovered Eligah Shyquan Payton, 19, who was in the restroom of the store. When Payton came out of the restroom, police stopped him as he tried to leave the store, patting him down and discovering a .25-caliber pistol.

He was charged with carrying a concealed and dangerous weapon. He is also charged with robbery stemming from an incident in December 2009.
