It will go down in the record books as Calhoun's fifth loss in six games this season.
Yet Friday night's 51-20 homecoming loss to visiting South Harrison may be looked on as the re-birth of the Calhoun football team.
Once again the Red Devils never quit and they had a tough row to hoe all game long since South Harrison kept the starting defense in until the final whistle and the starting offense in until the last series the Hawks had the ball and at that they sent the first unit back in to kick a field goal and set the final score.
Calhoun got several players back from the injured list, most notably Cory Metz. While Metz only played on defense he was all over the field with several tackles and didn't show any ill effects from an early season knee injury.
Despite Metz' brilliance it was the defense, however, that proved to be the Red Devils' downfall.
The Hawks' tight double-wing offense kept the Red Devils on their heels all night long.
The defensive woes over-balanced the rejuvenated offense in the final analysis.
Calhoun went to a spread offense for just about the entire game and it kept the Hawks off balance for a while.
Bronson Clark pierced the Hawks for two touchdowns including a 48-yard run up the middle in the second half.
Tyler Bennett had Calhoun's other touchdown when he ran a quarterback keeper and hit the right sideline for a 65-yard score.
The Red Devils were able to move the ball pretty much at will but were hamstrung by their own miscues and turnovers.
Calhoun returns to action Friday night at St. Marys.
