Parkersburg, WV - Since the evening of September 16, the Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of American Red Cross has responded in Wood and Wirt counties, where devastating tornadoes downed power lines and left several homes and businesses completely destroyed.
That night, volunteers and staff from the Red Cross provided food, water, and cleaning supplies to victims of the disaster and served food and coffee to utility workers and emergency services personnel. Red Cross teams also spent two days assessing damage to the affected areas.
External relations were established with public affairs messaging continuing throughout the weekend. A shelter and service center was opened at the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department, but is now closed. Disaster Health Services and Mental Health Services were also made available to victims.
Those still in need of assistance are encouraged to contact The American Red Cross, Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter at 304-485-7311.
The Red Cross gratefully acknowledges the contributions of those businesses that have donated supplies to help in the relief effort.
