Superintendent Roger Propst told board members Monday that he will be making application to the state's School Building Authority for improvements outlined in the 2010-20 Comprehensive Educational Facility Plan [CEFP].

Propst said he plans to work out the details of presenting a new bond issue to county voters by April 1, 2011, to use as matching money for a new Arnoldsburg school and make other improvements at Pleasant Hill and Calhoun Middle-High School.

The bond which would continue at the current rate being paid by county taxpayers.

He said the current $3 million school improvement bond approved by county voters several years ago will be paid off one year early, saving money. It was to expire in 2012.

Propst said there is money set aside to purchase six acres of land for a new Arnoldsburg school, the number of acres required by the SBA.

He also announced the county system would be receiving $244,812 from government money, a program generally known as "Save the Teachers."

Calhoun school administrator Donnie Pitts told the school board Monday that Pleasant Hill Elementary School renovations and repairs are "finally finished."

The West Virginia's School Building Authority funded $2,200,000 for repairs at the school.

Initial problems surfaced with a sewer line running under the length of the school, which resulted in revealing a number of other problems with the structure, built in 1978.

Pitts said the school building has really benefited from the repair of problems, with numerous other improvements and upgrades being made.
