Fire had headway when firemen arrived
at landmark Letherbark house
A roaring fire destroyed one of Letherbark's landmark houses Saturday night, with the Arnoldsburg and Upper West Fork Volunteer Fire Departments responding at 11 p.m.
Flames leaped 75 feet into the air from the two story structure along US-33 119, west of Arnoldsburg.
Firemen first feared that the 90+ year-old occupant of the house Pearl King might have been in the dwelling, although neighbors reported they made entry into the dwelling yelling for her with no response.

Arnoldsburg Fire Chief Derek Wright said phone calls confirmed Mrs. King was in Jackson County at a relatives house.
An adjacent house to the Pearl King property was the site of a suspicious fire a few years ago.
