Dominion Transmission is suing nine landowners who refuse to sell oil and gas rights the company says it needs "to protect natural gas stored in a large underground reservoir."
Dominion is using a federal condemnation law.
The 136 storage field in question is under Lewis County WV, with the parties being sued living in four states, in addition to WV.
Spokesman Dan Donovan says the company has no choice but to sue, attempting to reach a deal with the parties for ten years.
Dominion Transmission is owned by Virginia-based Dominion Resources Inc., which has the nation's largest natural gas storage system.
Dominion won't release buying prices.
