Rita Newell-Bender, 42, passed away on August 3, 2010 at the Fairlawn Hospice Care Center.
Rita is the daughter of Ronald and Lois Newell of Brimfield. Besides her parents, she is survived by the light of her life, her daughter, Brooke "Prissy" Bender; her aunts, uncles, and many cousins; also many cousins in West Virginia and a special aunt, Emogene Newell Robinson of Tanner, WV and a special uncle, Harry Newell of Orma WV.
Rita proudly fought a courageous battle with cancer for six years. Rita enjoyed collecting beautiful angel collectibles, for she highly believed in guardian angels. She also enjoyed going to casinos, time spent with her daughter, and "family time" which consisted of watching her favorite TV shows with her family, specifically Jeopardy. Rita worked at Berry Plastics for 15 years, where she greatly enjoyed seeing her friends every day.
Rita and her family would like to sincerely thank Emily and Joe Mercury for always being there, and neighbors Renee and Bernard Reed for all the sweets, cards, and visits they gave. Special thanks go to Dr. Esther Rhemus and her whole staff at the Akron General Cancer Center, all the chemotherapy nurses, and all shifts of nurses on the 5400 (Oncology) floor.
In lieu of flowers, Rita would like donations to the Akron General 5400 (Oncology) Floor, for various help and equipment for the patients.
Rita will be greatly missed by many. We know she is finally with her guardian angel, and happy. We love you Rita, from Brooke, Grandma, Grandpa, and Fluffy.
Calling hours will be held Friday, August 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a funeral service will be held Saturday, August 7, at 10 a.m., with Renee Reed officiating. Interment to follow at Restland Cemetery.
