WV RESIDENTS GET BREAKS FROM ENERGY-SAVING PROGRAMS

(08/04/2010)
State-funded programs are encouraging West Virginians to buy energy efficient appliances.

The state's Energy Star sales tax holiday begins Sept. 1 and runs through Nov. 30.

The break from the 6 percent sales tax applies to all noncommercial purchases of Energy Star products worth up to $5,000.

A rebate program sponsored by the state Department of Environmental Programs began in June and will continue until money is exhausted.

That program provides rebates to state residents who buy energy-efficient appliances such as refrigerators, clothes washers and dishwashers through participating retailers.
