GRANTSVILLE LIONS CLUB DONATES OVER $4000 TO COMMUNITY

Lions Club Year In Review by Robert Bonar

The 2009-2010 annual report for the Grantsville Lions Club shows that the club donated over $4,000 to worthwhile causes and provided more than 300 hours of volunteer service to the community. Receiving funding were Arnoldsburg School for playground equipment, two college scholarships for CCHS seniors, 4-H, Boy Scouts, Calhoun Library, Christmas Connection, Community Garden, American Cancer Society, and Boys State, among others.

Health needs continued to be a club priority, especially sight conservation, which remains the major goal of all Lions. To that end, the Grantsville Club paid for eye exams, purchased glasses, and recycled 176 pair of used lenses and frames.

Club members have given of their time to assist with 10 basket bingos for community groups, giving out Halloween treats, sponsoring Santa's visit at the Hometown Country Christmas, Calhoun Middle School reward activity, assisting the Salvation Army with Thanksgiving dinner, sponsoring the Wood Festival carnival and lining up the parade, and making premie hats for Women's and Children's Hospital, and toboggans and slippers for veterans at the VA Hospital.

The major sources of revenue for the club are the carnival and bingo at the Wood Festival, and a variety of fund raisers throughout the year, including mop and broom sales. All money collected in these efforts is donated back to the community.

The Grantsville Lions Club wishes to thank all those who have helped the club this year - our loyal bingo players, those who donate used glasses, and other groups who work with the Lions on projects.
